Premodern

The Lumberjack Open - Rules and Structure

Format Description

Premodern is a community-created constructed format invented by Martin Berlin in 2012 consisting of the sets from Fourth Edition to Scourge. The card pool thus roughly spans the period inbetween the formats 93/94 and Modern. A rule of thumb for the card pool is: all cards with the old frame printed between 1995 and 2003, which were standard legal at some point during this period. Despite the nostalgic flavour of the format, in Premodern all reprints are allowed, regardless of the frame or the art of the card wrt. the original art.

This format extends the standard Premodern pool of cards, by allowing all Gold Border Cards to be played and featured in decks.

Pairing System

Pairings will be generated using SWISS Rules, considering a number of playable rounds determined by the total number of players.

Rounds:

  • 09 to 16 players = 4 rounds;
  • 17 to 32 players = 5 rounds;
  • 33 to 64 players = 6 rounds;
  • 65 to 128 players = 7 rounds;
  • 129+ = 8 rounds.

Top 16, 8, or 6 will be calculated, depending on the total number of players.

New rounds (and therefore pairings) will be played as soon as all players played theirs.
